Genaro: We have to stick together, that’s how we have to think

The midfielder spoke to the media after the Costa del Sol Cup: “We have to be prepared to face each situation, it's a wonderful challenge,” he stated.

Genaro Rodríguez is one of the oldest players on the squad. After winning the XXXIV Costa del Sol Cup, he analysed the victory for the media: “In general terms, I think we’ve seen a pretty good team. I think we did well, we knew how to suffer, we had the ball, generated chances and in the second half the goals arrived. It was a pity we conceded a goal, which obviously we must improve on,” he said.

The pressure that a team like Málaga CF can have in this category is high, but it’s managed in the dressing room: “I've already said this week that well-managed pressure should be an incentive for us, both for the younger players and the older ones. It’s a wonderful challenge. We’re professionals and must be prepared to face each situation. This season is going to be hard, but let's hope it’s a good one,” he added.

Regarding his role, Genaro is clear: “I'm going to try to be one more member of the team, contribute my years of experience, the last one of which was very hard. Bringing that experience to the young players so that they bring that vitality that we all have to push forward. This is not about individuals; we have to stick together. If we jump, we all jump. That’s how we have to think this season,” he commented.

The new signings are fitting in well and have adapted perfectly to the group: “I think they’ve been chosen well, the new players who have arrived are doing their bit, day-to-day with them is very easy. Whether there are signings or not is not my responsibility, but everyone who comes here has to know that they are coming to an important city, to an important club and they have to contribute so that the team gets to where it deserves to be,” he stated.

Lastly, Genaro talked about the atmosphere at La Rosaleda during the match: “I think the people enjoyed today, I hope they saw a committed and enthusiastic team. We hope that it will be the first of many joys that we experience during the season,” he concluded.
