Funes: “We’re coming into the match hungrier”

The Blue and White coach gave the pre-match press conference this Friday ahead of #MálagaHuesca. “More than our current run of form, our biggest asset for Sunday is that we’re playing at La Rosaleda with our fans,” he said.

Available players for Sunday

“Einar hasn’t started yet with the rest of his teammates, he’s only halfway there. He’s not available for this match. Besides the suspensions and long-term injuries, Ramón is still a bit hasty, but the rest are available.”

Alerts ahead of SD Huesca’s visit

“This league, which many call ‘hyper-competitive,’ breaks all the statistics. We’re going to face a Huesca team with great intensity, they don’t have the points they’d like, but every match is very challenging. What’s important is that we are able to play at our best level, stay focused, avoid mistakes, and win the game in the way that suits us most. In terms of points, they haven’t seen all their effort reflected, most of their matches have ended with very tight results.”

A tough, experienced rival

“They have five or six absences between injuries and suspensions. Whoever comes will be a strong team. We have almost the same number of absences, if not more. The day we started against Mirandés, we had 10 injured players, and we’ve played many matches like that. What matters are the players who are coming; they’ll bring a good squad with highly respected players in the division: Portillo, Seoane, Óscar Sielva… They have a solid team and will be competitive.”

Always looking for the opponent’s goal

“We try to go after every match, taking as many shots as possible and in the best conditions we can. Some days it will be a bit harder, and other days a bit easier, but what matters is the intent and that we maintain it. You have to focus on the present and play each match with intensity. When you only think about making things go well in Huesca, it’s better, not thinking about what happened before or what comes after.”

Fans are essential

“More than our current run of form, our biggest asset for Sunday is that we’re playing at La Rosaleda with our fans. The other day we earned a huge point thanks to them. Feeling them so close and having their support is an extra boost for us. That’s where we’ll find a big advantage. In terms of results, form, tables, and numbers, streaks are made to be broken.”

Eager for the win

“One of the good things the Valladolid match gave us is that we’re coming in hungrier; we want to satisfy that as soon as possible. The way they experienced it, we shouldn’t see it as a major setback. We’ll have to overcome many challenges, and the best thing is how they’ve handled the week and reacted. Hopefully they train like they did this week after every adversity, because everything that happens to us will be useful.”
