Five Malaguistas in action with their national teams

Ontiveros played with Spain’s under-19s yesterday; Rosales, Juanpi and the reserve team’s Mikel Villanueva were in Venezuela’s starting-11; and Roque returned to the pitch in Paraguay against Brazil. Just Filipenko was not selected to play.

Javi Ontiveros | Spain’s under-19s

The Marbella-born winger was in the starting line-up, played for 90 minutes and was shown a yellow card during the England-Spain match, corresponding to the 3rd (Group 1) game of the XXV Under-19s European Championships Elite Mini-Tournament, held at the Ciudad de Lepe stadium (Huelva).  The British side defeated Spain by 2-0 with goals from Onomah and Armstrong, eliminating them from the upcoming European Competition.

Egor Filipenko | Belarus

The Malaguista stayed on the subs’ bench, without having a chance to play in the international friendly between Montenegro and Belarus (0-), held in Podgorica.

Rosales, Juanpi and Mikel Villanueva (reserve team) | Venezuela

The three Blue and Whites’ players were in Venezuela’s starting-11 against Chile, in the South American qualifier for the 2018 Russia World Cup, held at the Agustín Tovar ‘La Carolina’ stadium in Barinas.  Rosales and Mikel played the entire game, with the right-winger receiving a yellow card, whilst Juanpi was substituted by Peñaranda in minute 60’.  Chile overcame the initial goal by Otero, and with two goals apiece for Pinilla and Vidal, won the game by 1-4.

Roque Santa Cruz | Paraguay

The Paraguayan striker, having overcome his recent injury problems, participated in the Paraguay-Brazil South American qualifying match for the 2018 Russia World Cup, held at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asunción.  Roque, due to the injury of his teammate, Jorge Benítez, stepped on to the pitch in minute 9’ of the first half, playing for the remainder of what was a passionate match.  Lezcano and Edgar Benítez put Paraguay in the lead, whilst Ricardo Oliveira and Dani Alves equalised in the final stage of play for the ‘Canarinha’ team (2-2).
