The Juvenil División de Honor team in MCF’s youth academy won the prestigious tournament for the third year running last weekend.
Sergio Pellicer’s team won this year’s MIC(Mediterranean International Cup) which took place on Easter Sunday. The Malaguistas defeated Real Club Deportivo Espanyol by 2-1 in the final held at Motilivi municipal ground.
“It’s a great delight for the players and the entire academy, as it’s very difficult to defend such a prestigious tournament as the MIC. The experience and the image generated by the team during the tournament is the most important factor”, comments Sergio Pellicer to MCFTV.
For the Juvenil players, this title provides a welcome boost for the remainder of the season. With three games left to go, Málaga CF is the best second in all groups within the División de Honor, therefore victories in the final three matches would mean qualification to the Champions Cup. Should the team defeat leaders, Sevilla FC in the last match, with a difference of two goals, the Blue and Whites will win the Group IV league. This, along with the Copa del Rey, are the challenges on the horizon for Pellicer’s team.
