The first team players are preparing for the start of pre-season by completing a comprehensive medical assessment protocol designed to ensure they return to training with the highest standards of health, fitness, and performance.
Málaga CF began its pre-season medical examinations this week at Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga, where the players underwent cardiology and radiology assessments, as well as clinical testing. The comprehensive medical protocol is designed to ensure the squad begins the new season with the highest standards of health, fitness, and performance.
Dr. Pablo Campos, Head of Medical Services for the Blue and White first team, oversaw the examinations alongside Dr. Enrique Puche, consultant in the Cardiology Department, and Dr. Ernesto Rivera and Dr. Carlos Alonso, specialists in Diagnostic Radiology at Quirónsalud Málaga. Fitness coach Julio Rodríguez also assisted in monitoring the entire process.
Ochoa, Dani Sánchez, Dani Lorenzo, Rafa Rodríguez and Puga completed their medical assessments on Thursday, while Haitam, Chupete, Larrubia, Joaquín and Izan underwent theirs on Friday, becoming the first players to successfully complete the pre-season screenings. The comprehensive evaluation includes a medical history review, physical examination, resting electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) with gas analysis, one of the most comprehensive methods of assessing the cardiovascular and respiratory response to exercise. The medical examinations will continue on Monday and conclude on Wednesday with comprehensive blood tests for the entire squad.
As the Club's Official Medical Provider, Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga provides Málaga CF with a multidisciplinary approach that combines cardiovascular screening, functional assessment and body composition analysis using state-of-the-art technology, reinforcing a partnership founded on clinical excellence and precision sports medicine.
“The pre-participation medical assessment is the most effective tool for preventing cardiovascular events and ensuring that every player begins the season with the highest standards of safety and medical assurance,” said Dr. Enrique Puche, Sports Cardiology specialist at Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga.
As part of the medical assessment, all players will also undergo a body composition analysis using DEXA technology, a highly accurate scan that measures the percentage and distribution of each player's muscle mass, body fat and bone mass.
“DEXA provides us with an exceptionally accurate picture of each player's body composition. It's not simply about knowing how much a player weighs, but about analysing the distribution of their muscle mass, body fat and bone mass to obtain objective data that helps inform decisions from the very first day of pre-season,” said Dr. Ernesto Rivera, Diagnostic Radiology specialist at Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga, and an expert in sports injuries and ultrasound-guided therapies.
