Málaga CF and its Foundation, in collaboration with the Málaga Centre for Tissue and Cell Transfusion, are organising a new blood and bone marrow donation event. Inspired by the legacy of Pablo Ráez, this initiative aims to provide the vital blood resources needed to meet the hospital demands of our community.
Sebastián Fernández Reyes ‘Basti’, a member of the MCF Foundation’s Social Department, and Emilio Alfonso Martínez, medical coordinator of the Transfusion Centre, presented this heartfelt campaign, which will take place on Wednesday 23rd April at the Transfusion Centre of the Hospital Civil from 15:00 until 21:00.
As a token of appreciation for their generosity, the first 200 donors will receive a scratch card with a guaranteed prize. Prizes include official jerseys, autographed footballs, commemorative shirts signed by the ‘Doble D’, and two tickets to the match against Castellón, among other gifts. Free parking will be available for all participants.
Throughout the event, professionals from the Transfusion Centre will be on hand to provide information and register those interested in becoming bone marrow donors. Emilio Alfonso also outlined the donation requirements: “You must be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh over 50 kilograms, not have any chronic or infectious diseases, and if you’ve recently gotten a tattoo, wait at least four months before donating.”
The Blood Transfusion Centre, which supplies all hospitals in the province, stresses the importance of maintaining a steady blood supply to meet the needs of approximately 175 daily procedures that require transfusions. With a growing demand for blood products, around 250 donations are needed each day. Public solidarity is essential, as blood cannot be manufactured, it can only be obtained from voluntary donors.
In football, teamwork is everything. In blood donation, every donor is a key part of the team. Now more than ever, we must answer the call with the same strength and unity we bring to every match, to offer a better future to those who need us.
