Diego González: "Málaga has always caught my attention"

The central defender was presented at CaixaBank’s regional headquarters: “I am confident that with this team, with this good project that we believe in, we can fight for the top positions in the rankings”.

Diego González was presented as a new Málaga CF player today, Thursday at CaixaBank’s headquarters in Málaga. The Club’s sports director, Francesc Arnau, accompanied the player, and said to the media that the central “is a promising, young Spanish player. He’s strong, and with his qualities it won’t take him long to adapt to the First Division”.

Good feelings

“I didn’t have much time to undertake pre-season training before, but the feelings are good, both personally and in regard to the team. I feel comfortable on the pitch”.

Historic team

“I had more options, but Málaga has always caught my attention. It’s an historic team, competing in the Champions not that long ago. I am confident that with this team, with this good project that we believe in, we can fight for the top positions in the rankings”.

Versatile

“Fortunately, my father taught me from a young age that I should learn with my right, even though I was born a lefty, but I manage both well. I would like to bring intensity to the forwards, so they know I’m there, and realise that I’m strong. I can also drive well from the front. At the back, I do what’s asked of me, and try to make difficult play more straightforward”.

Focused on Málaga

“My objective is to do my best, both for myself and the team. It’s a new project with new ambitions. Time will tell, but my focus is on Málaga and I can’t wait to get started and have a good season”.

Fellowship

“Luis Hernández and Paul Baysse are great teammates in our daily sessions, and they make you feel comfortable. They are extremely professional footballers. They are the first to arrive, work hard and make you feel at home. Both players have set a good example to follow. My arrival here has been very smooth. My teammates are easy to get along with, there are no big egos on the team. In addition, I’ve known Mula since I was younger playing for Andalucía”.

Work

“I’ve not spoke to Míchel a great deal, but in training every day I’ll get to know what he’s thinking and how I can earn a place on the team. We’ll see what happens as work continues”.

Carranza Cup

“It’s always nice to go back to where I started playing football, my first home. It’ll be full of my people, I love going back to Carranza”.
