Málaga CF central, Mikel Villanueva will play on loan during the 2017/18 season with Cádiz CF, following the agreement reached between both clubs. In addition, the Málaga squad has extended the contract of the Venezuelan international defender until 2019/20.
Mikel kicked off his professional career with Deportivo Tachira in Venezuela’s First Division. He subsequently joined Deportivo Lara. Following a season with the Venezuelan outfit, Málaga CF set their sights on the player to reinforce the Atlético Malagueño defence. Mikel joined the Malaguista reserve team in July 2015, on loan with an option to buy, which the Blue and Whites exercised at the end of the loan period.
In 2016/17, Mikel formed part of the Malaguista first team, taking part in a total of 15 official LaLiga, plus two Copa del Rey games.
