David Larrubia: “We really needed an away win”

The scorer of Málaga’s second goal in Albacete also featured in the mixed zone. “We leave with a very good feeling. Now we need to secure a home victory to finish the year on a high note,” he said.

Much-needed victory

“We really needed this after the setback the other day at La Rosaleda, which we’ll always remember at the end of the season regarding those two points. Earning points away from home is very difficult, and winning even more so. We leave with a great feeling from finally winning on the road, and now we need to secure a home victory to finish the year on a high note.”

Goal

“Joaquín made an amazing individual play, he and Dani can do that at any moment. He struck the ball, the rebound fell to me, so I set it up on my left foot and aimed for the far post. I tried again later, but the goalkeeper saved it. The first one went in.”

The reward of finding the net

“Scoring again is always a joy. I always try my best, aiming to find the goal and add to the stats that weren’t coming my way. You can’t fault me for the work I put in, and I will always strive to give my best.”

More confidence after the equaliser

“An early goal in the second half gave us a lot of breathing room and energy to face the rest of the match. Each of us improved in our own game and put into practice what we’ve been working on. In the first half, we didn’t have many shots on goal, and it was more of a tiring situation for them, we controlled the ball and they only came out on counterattacks. In the second half, their physical level dropped, we played a very good second half, and we managed the game very well.”

Turning point?

“Let’s hope so. We want to win every away game, and I don’t know why it hadn’t been happening, maybe it was a mental block. I hope that after this match we’ve broken that barrier and can continue winning more games on the road.”

Change after the break

“The message was to stay calm and stick to the plan we had before the match. We knew they were very dangerous on the counter, so we had to be alert to those situations. In the end, it was about playing inside to try to progress and finish on the outside, like in the first goal with Joaquín. It was about following the plan, the match was going to be long, we’d have chances, and if we converted them, we could come back.”

Ending the year at home

“At La Rosaleda, in front of our fans, we always have many chances to win, no matter the opponent. We hope to finish the year well with a home victory, start 2026 on a positive note, and keep moving forward.”
