Dani Martín: “A clean sheet ensures you points”

The Malaguista goalkeeper analysed tonight’s duel with CD Tenerife to MCFTV: “The Second Division is so tight, two matches at home can move you right up the standings,” he commented.

Dani Martín once again kept a clean sheet. The keeper spoke to the Club media after Monday night’s game at La Rosaleda: “Keeping a clean sheet gives us a 100% chance of scoring points. From then on, if the strikers are accurate, the three points are assured,” he explained.

He went on to talk about the match: “We felt very comfortable during the first half. Between minutes 7 and 15 they piled the pressure on, with several crosses and arrivals, but we didn’t feel in danger. They did have a few near misses, but they were isolated incidents. In the second half they stepped up, we were in the lead, but they tightened up their game upfront. However, I don’t think we were in too much trouble. They made some crosses, but barely any shots at goal,” he said.

“The Second Division is so tight, there are very few points between the playoff positions and the drop zone. As you can see, we were 14th before this game and now we’re 7th. We moved up seven places by winning three points. This shows how close the standings are, and if you lose an away game the world ends, yet a win at home puts you in the promotion fight,” he said about the division.

Lastly, he said two home games on the bounce could be a big advantage: “We have another home game coming up at the weekend. Two matches at home can move you right up the standings, so we’re going to give all we’ve got. As we did tonight. Hopefully we’ll generate more chances and keep a clean sheet again,” he concluded.
