Málaga-Tenerife, kilometre 16

Life goes on the same at La Rosaleda. Win, win, win and win again, as Luis Aragonés would say. The stats at La Rosaleda, both overwhelming and historic, allow us to dream of a shot at the promotion playoffs.

There are so many highlights from #MálagaTenerife. Let’s have a look!

Brandon honours the jersey

Yes, he scored the winning goal. And yes, he scored from the penalty spot to equal Malaguista ‘pichichi’ Paulino with three goals. Yet, possibly, the most remarkable thing about the player from Mallorca was his fight and collective commitment for 87 minutes of play. His hard work honours the Blue and White shirt.

Calero’s return to the starting-11

After more than 11 months, following his fateful injury in Almería, Iván returned to the starting line-up. He certainly surprised with his competitive level following such a long time out of action. His continual movement up the wing, his good associations with his teammates, his defensive application and above all his great physical level, made him one of the best players on the team.

The Juande and Peybernes wall

Absolutely imperial. The match for the centre-backs, clearing all the balls by land, sea and air, unbalanced one of the best strikers in the division, a desperate Enric Gallego. The duo led the defence that maintained a clean sheet, a blessed custom that is the norm this 21/22 season.

The stats at La Rosaleda aren’t normal

The days advance yet the script doesn’t change. Fortunately, of course. The team’s power at their home ground and the fans’ tireless support, has led to some overwhelming numbers in our favour. A total of 20 out of a possible 24 points at La Rosaleda in eight games, undefeated with six victories and two draws (nine goals scored and two conceded). Words just aren’t enough.

Seven in one go

Before kick-off, Málaga CF were in 14th place in the standings. By the end we moved up seven places. Impressive and symptomatic of the reigning equality in the silver division that delivers pure emotion each week. The lucky number ‘7’ emerged as the protagonist, with Málaga now three points away from promotion playoffs set by Poferradina with 26 points, four away from the next rival visiting La Rosaleda, UD Las Palmas (5th, 27 points).
