Enjoy your stay in New York, José Luis!

Artist José Luis Puche, creator of the images featured on the Málaga CF captain's armbands, is heading to the United States to continue his professional career.

Since the 2022/23 season, the Málagaa CF captain's armband has borne the artistic touch of José Luis Puche, a Malaga-born painter, passionate supporter of the club, and a prominent figure in contemporary art both nationally and internationally.

Puche has captured, and will continue to capture, the most iconic images from all the municipalities of Málaga province on the armbands. However, from now on, he will do so from afar, as he moves with his family to New York City, in the United States.

“Our commitment was to create all 103 armbands, it was both my wish and the club’s, and that will be fulfilled from New York,” said the painter to MCFTV from inside La Rosaleda, where his works can be seen near the entrance to the players’ tunnel.

“It’s a demanding job, but also a very beautiful one that helps you get to know the province, even towns you barely knew, only by name. Translating all of that into something connected to Málaga CF has been a research project that I’m really enjoying,” he said.

His connection to the club, as a devoted supporter and season ticket holder, goes a step further through the armband. “For me, it has immeasurable value,” he says, with a hint of nostalgia ahead of his imminent move to the US: “Coming to La Rosaleda is like a ritual for me, but I’ll keep feeling the excitement as if I were still here.”

Puche greeted the first team at the end of yesterday’s training session at the Annexe, particularly coach Sergio Pellicer. The coach gifted him a Blue and White jersey with ‘Puche’ on the back and wished him the best of luck in his new professional chapter.

We’ll miss you in Málaga, José Luis! Have a great trip!
