Brandon: “I’m surprised VAR didn’t intervene”

The Blue and White striker featured in one of the standout moments of the match: “The foul is very clear,” he said.

It was all square between Málaga CF and SD Ponferradina on matchday 31 of LaLiga SmartBank.

Around minute 50, Brandon appeared to finish a great assist from the right by Víctor Gómez. The striker strategically positioned himself at the near post to overcome the keeper, but a rival defender got in his way in a dubious action, This is what Brandon had to say: “I was very surprised VAR didn’t intervene during this play as the foul is very clear. The ref said it wasn’t enough. We were deprived of winning three points that we deserved,” he explained.

The draw doesn’t satisfy the Malaguistas’ ambition, which Brandon summarises as follows: “We all wanted to win the three points at home, particularly after last week’s victory. It’s important to keep a clean sheet, but we leave with the bitter taste of not claiming the three points today.”

“We’re being more daring with the ball, which was a bit of a struggle beforehand. We’re doing good things, improving each day and taking on Natxo’s concepts,” said Brandon when questioned about the team’s image in recent games.

“Last weekend’s win helped us a great deal, it was very important. Today we were determined to make our fans happy. We leave with a bitter taste, but this is the way forward. We were very good in defence, I congratulate Andrés, who did a very good job. Today a young homegrown player moved up, he’s doing very well, and we must congratulate him,” he added.
