Banderas, the brightest Malagueño light

With the permission of Pablo Picasso, naturally, Antonio Banderas has earned himself the most universal recognition of Malaga.

The #SiempreFuerte Special Award is, in itself, more special than ever this year. Its winner, Antonio Banderas. Need we say more? Ok, here we go.

José Antonio Domínguez Bandera, Antonio Banderas (Málaga, 1960), trained at the ‘Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Málaga’ and from 1979 began a staggering career that continues into 2021 in full effervescence, thanks to his immense capacity for work, tenacity and talent, and the ability to do whatever he sets his mind to.

A Spanish actor from the previously almost inaccessible Hollywood film industry. An international benchmark and prophet in his land, he has served as a model, singer, film director, movie and theatre producer. And so so much more. Antonio is immense.

Recognition in the form of major awards has cascaded in recent years. In 2014 he was awarded the Goya de Honor; in 2017 he received the National Cinematography Award and 2019 was his great year, when interpreting Pedro Almodóvar's 'Pain and Glory' he won the Goya for best leading actor and at the Cannes Festival he won the award for best male performance.

However, Banderas' legacy goes far beyond awards or such a lengthy, productive and brilliant professional career. Antonio represents the Málaga Brand like no one else. A son of Andalucia, Knight of the Legion of Honour, his involvement in Semana Santa in Malaga, president of the Board of Trustees of the Fundación Lágrimas y Favores de Málaga...  A philanthropist and someone who gives everything from the heart. Yet that heart gave him a big scare some time ago, luckily without any consequences for his health. For him, his family, Málaga and the entire world, everyone who admires the figure of an absolute titan of our culture that is siempre fuerte and eager to continue fighting.

He’s so special, one of the most special in the land along with, of course, the admired and interpreted by himself in the Genius series, Pablo Ruiz Picasso. A universal Malagueño and #SiempreFuerte 2020 Award winner. Simply, Antonio Banderas, the light that shines the brightest in the Costa del Sol sky.
