Angeleri: “A draw would have been a fairer result”

Following the match against Atlético de Madrid, Málaga CF’s Angeleri, Jesús Gámez and Samu attended to the assembled media in the mixed zone.

The Argentinean-born centre-forward believes a draw would have been a fairer result: “I think it’s a real shame that we didn’t manage to gain at least one point from this match, we deserved more.  The rival didn’t really create many goal opportunities at all, however neither did we.  I think it was a fairly balanced game and a draw would have been a fairer result.”

Angeleri was in today’s starting-11 as part of the three-strong defence at the back, and is pleased with the formation: “The system worked really well this afternoon.  We took advantage of our 2-1 player superiority against strong strikers – Villa and Diego Costa – which worked well and helped us to maintain a strong defensive line.  I think we could have come away with a draw or possibly even won this match.”

Jesús Gámez also believes Málaga CF deserved more today: “We deserved a better result.  A draw would have been much fairer I think.  From a physical point of view we performed well, as we know how physically fit Atlético are. They didn’t really have any clear chances to score, apart from the unfortunate goal we conceded.  It’s a pity we let points escape due to this.”

Reserve team player, Samu, draws some positives from today’s game against a difficult rival like Atlético de Madrid: “The team played extremely well today, our attitude on the pitch was excellent and we really did give our all.  Despite not coming away with the right result, we’re looking forward to our next match.  We were well aware that today’s game was going to be tough.  Atlético de Madrid have had a fantastic run of results.  However we are now focused on our next game, and if we keep the same attitude, I’m sure we’ll achieve a positive result.”
