A Herrero: “This dressing room truly feels the colours”

The Malaguista captain spoke after matchday 39 following the win against Real Sporting. “I take away the team’s reaction and that belief that we could still win the match,” he said.

Important victory

“Very happy. These are the kind of matches that, on paper, you’re expected to win because of the schedule and the standings, but there are no easy games. I’m pleased with the team’s performance, staying true to our style, and with the victory. It was a very special match, supported by the fans, with that unity that helps us keep building a family that pushes us forward.”

Team’s reaction

“Their goal should be looked at from the start of the move to analyse it and improve. I take away the team’s reaction and that belief that we could still win the match, both with 11 and with 10 men. I’d need to see ‘Doti’s’ incident again, but it was an unfortunate action. I understand the referee showed a red card because he believed it warranted it, and there’s nothing more to say. Now we focus on the next match, which will be tough.”

Hope and feeling

“I analyse everything with a clear head, mathematically it’s not decided yet. We approach it with the ambition of winning the three matches that remain. We focus on showing our best version, maintaining this competitive level and this way of playing. And when things go wrong, having a clear model to rely on and turn games around, that means a lot. And feeling the colours, inside that dressing room, is very important.”

Putting the team first

“We are conceding more goals now. It doesn’t worry me. I don’t care, even if they score four, as long as we score one more than the opponent. My ambition is to put the team first. We’re playing attractive football, I’m enjoying this style of play, and I’m learning. You don’t always get that feeling of learning something new, and I’m very happy, especially for the team. Team, team and the fans, they are lifting us up at home.”
