Willy: “We’re only focusing on gaining points against Atlético”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Willy Caballero held a press conference this morning at the Ciudad de Málaga athletics stadium following training, to analyse the team ahead of Sunday’s game against Club Atlético de Madrid at the Vicente Calderón.

Willy starts off by talking about Sunday’s clash with the Red and Whites: “We’re hoping to gain points from this away game as we’re determined to play the best football we can.  We really need to win and bring the points home, which is what we always try and do in every game.  It’s crucial that we try and impose our style of play, work to our strengths and above all have patience.  With regards to my opinion on the League, my only concern is fighting for my Club and to ensure our place in the elite next season.  Nothing else interests me right now.  We all need to remain focused on Sunday as Atlético are extremely versatile thanks to their latest signings.  They always have a good strategy in place, very tight knit and work well with the ball.  We need to remain cautious, and fight and defend well, as is necessary when you’re up against a big rival, whether it’s a League game or not.  I have no interest in who wins the League this year.”

The Blue and Whites’ keeper is confident the team will put on the best performance possible during the last two matches of the season: “We’ve had talks and made sure that we’re all working towards correcting the mistakes we made against Getafe and Elche.  The coach wanted to give us a wake-up call, which he did, and now we’re determined to play our best football against Atlético de Madrid, and be 100% convinced that we can win on Sunday.  We’re all totally committed into ending the League season in the best possible way, making sure we stay in the First Division next season, and follow what the coach, our leader, tells us to do.”

Finally, Willy looks at his possibilities of playing for Argentina and his future with Málaga CF: “It’s been a long time since I’ve played for my country, and when the selection is announced I’m sure my name won’t be on it.  However I need to continue on, as I still have a good number of years left in my career.  With regards to my future, there are always lots of rumours going around but I have my contract with Málaga CF and I’m very happy here.  I really do enjoy every day being here.”
