Málaga Club de Fútbol goalkeeper, Willy Caballero, held a press conference before this morning’s training session at the Ciudad de Málaga athletics stadium.
Firstly the Argentinean-born keeper analyses last night’s Cup match: “Taking into account our attitude on the pitch throughout the game, we showed improvement, were fully prepared and didn’t lose sight of our determination for victory for the entire 90 minutes. Being knocked out of the Cup in this way is no bad thing, as we played very good football last night. Despite last week’s 3-3 draw, the team gave everything on the pitch in the return leg. We felt like an equal rival yesterday, which is something we haven’t felt for a long time. The team is growing and improving and starting to score more goals, and I think we showed great courage and strength against Osasuna.”
Regarding his substitution last night, Willy states; “I played the first game as Charly (Carlos Kameni) was with his family; last night I was on the bench in the Copa del Rey game supporting my teammates.”
The Blue and Whites’ keeper is visiting his former team tomorrow, which brings back good memories: “I’m really looking forward to returning to Elche and playing at their stadium with Málaga. We need to come home with a good result from this match and end the year on a positive note, so we can move up the League table and achieve our first away win. Elche have been performing well both in home and away matches, so Friday’s game isn’t going to be easy. I hope we can focus on our creativity on the pitch, maintain a good rhythm of play and come away victorious. We need to get used to winning and keep aiming high, if we don’t we’ll only ever give a mediocre performance.”
Finally, Willy talks about non-sporting issues surrounding the Club: “It’s something that the Club needs to resolve, hopefully as soon as possible. They’re doing their best to sort everything out, but our job is to defend Málaga on the pitch.”
