“We hold on to professionalism and pride”

The Blue and Whites’ coach spoke to the media the night before #MálagaRealMadrid: “We need to play a serious match to try and bring joy to our fans”.

Play a serious match

“We have to focus on playing a good match, a serious match, to try and bring joy to our fans. That’s what it’s about, competing, attempting to convey there’s faith in victory and maintain that mindset. We need to engage the fans to enable them to have some enjoyment”.

Professionalism

“Nothing has ended, we need to keep working hard day after day, with the same faith and same level of professionalism. I have a match tomorrow against Real Madrid, so must think about doing things as well as possible. A team like us holds onto professionalism and pride, dignity, the personal pride of each player, trying to do our best until the end. It’s the obligation of any professional in any sector, which is what we’ll do from here until the end of the season”.

Seeking victory

“We are going to try and win against Madrid. It’s been done many times, so why not try tomorrow? If you look at the trajectory of each team against your own, you can see they are the favourites, but we’ll try, as we always do”.

Good image

“Another image? The team will convey the same image. We’ve played at home against the top seven teams. If we look at the standings, now Betis is involved, but in my time, it’s been the top seven, and I don’t believe we’ve conveyed a bad image in any one game. It’s a speech I know that doesn’t serve to help anyone. Right now, everything I say is going to be used against me because football generates a great deal of excitement, yet now everyone is disillusioned. We must accept criticism, our results have been disappointing, but I have no doubt the players have given their utmost”.
