Analysis of the change

“These situations aren’t anything new in the world of football, I’ve been through them as a player and a coach. It provokes a restart in terms of expectations. There’s a very positive group and I’ve seen a lot of optimism and a great deal of enthusiasm. Now we’re about to start a league of eight games, a new league, where we already have one win under our belt (Reus). We have seven matches to win, that’s why we’re here. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Málaga to return to the First Division”.

Players and team

“The changes are made with the idea of improving. We want to help them to convey the best version of themselves, this is why we’re here. We want to be a brave team, a protagonist. If we want to win the seven games that are left, we’ll need to really go for them, which is why we’re here. We had interesting offers from abroad, but we signed until the end of the season as we believe in this squad”.

Up to date

“When you don’t have a team, you need to analyse leagues, which is how we’re facing this. We’re up to date with everything and our analysis of Málaga is clear. Since yesterday we’ve been working on ways to better the team. There’s always room for improvement, our message is one of improvement and hunger”.

Mental factor

“It’s a key issue in top-level performance, the mental and emotional aspects, both individually and collectively. Any stimulus provokes reactions, these must be channelled in order to be more productive, which is what we’re working on. We believe there’s enough time, of that there’s no doubt. When we’re doing very well, we’ll still continue working hard to improve”.

Reactivation and systems

“Every time there’s a change, everyone’s computer is reactivated. All the players start with the same possibilities, no doubt. Regardless of playing more or less. It’s brutal to count on all the players. The important thing is that they feel like protagonists and each one contributes (…) The players are the most important. We’re working to master different models of gameplay according to the squad. The players come first, then we work on what we believe is best for the team”.

Hunger

“We apply this philosophy of hunger and humility. The experiences we have in life are analysed to enable us to keep growing. Things that happen to us are not better or worse, they are conclusions to continue to grow. Capacity to grow and improve”.

Contreras

“I’m happy with the incorporation of Koke (Contreras) for his personal and professional capacity. We have a great relationship, he’s an exceptional guy. He is a great help with what he does and is an icon of Malaguismo”.

Discipline and fans

“I grew up in Real Madrid and since I was a young boy, I’ve had a high level of discipline at all levels. In the world of football management, the situation of frequent change is very common. Usually there’s no time to develop projects. However, when you get to work you can consolidate and reach a level of sporting stability (…) All fans in Andalucía are incredibly passionate, and this unity with the supporters is key. We don’t have to ask them for anything, if we’re able to generate that communion in the dressing room, it will be conveyed to the stands”.

LaLiga 1|2|3

“We’ll work on all aspects, not just the mental aspect. There is no specific need. The difficulty in this category is the maximum equality among the teams. There are major clubs in the Second Division, but in the end, the football is the same”.

Homegrown players

“Hicham is training with us, as a coaching team we love to work with the young players, it’s in our DNA. Within the teams we’ve worked with, we’ve trained with ‘juveniles’, we’ve not hesitated. Our door will be open in that sense”.

Future

“It has no major importance, for now we’re focusing on the league of eight games. The consequence is that both parties will be happy, and we can achieve something great in the long term. Should we be successful, everyone will be pleased, no doubt”.

Feedback

“The players believe in the possibility of the objective we’ve set out. Far from long speeches, the first was super easy. It was unanimous to say that we believe in them, and we are receiving that feedback. The objective is achievable and reachable, the first is Alcorcón, and from today we’re working on the tactical nuances for that match”.
