Press conference

“We're going to Almería with the intention of getting all 3 points”

Manolo Sánchez, Málaga CF’s assistant coach, spoke at the pre-match press conference for #AlmeríaMálaga. “They have a very high level, but at home, we were able to stand up to them, and we're going for the win,” he stated.

Optimistic about Pellicer’s return

“The coach is a very strong person, both physically and mentally. Last year, he was able to travel to Huelva after a minor operation, so I doubt he won’t go to Almería. We’re really looking forward to having him back, and I’m sure he’ll be there.”

Very talented rival

“They have one of the most highly rated squads in the league, with tremendous potential. Their level is extremely high, with some of the most talented players in the division. At home, we were able to stand up to them. We’re going there with the goal of getting all three points and moving forward. We never stop appreciating what our players do every day.”

Tactics

“It's great to see that the players believe in the work we're doing. We practice it during the week, and the entire coaching staff analyses every detail. It was something we planned in advance, we knew that option could work. In the first half, they hesitated to try it. At half-time, I discussed the possibility with the coach and presented two options. We always assess things visually before making a decision. We never impose anything; we have a group that values consensus. We showed them the footage, and they decided to go for it. It’s very rewarding to see set-piece work pay off. It’s usually the part of training that players find the most tedious, so moments like this are a pleasure to enjoy.”

Two consecutive, crucial wins

“Emotions play a big role in football. The pressure to win is there in every match. We've all felt a weight lifted off our shoulders because these victories came against direct rivals in the fight for survival. They give us the confidence we need to enjoy the game in Almería. Football is very emotional, and things can change from one week to the next. We've had matches where we played really well but just lacked efficiency. People need to see that these three points give us a huge confidence boost.”

Possibility of tactical variations

“Depending on the rival, we can adjust certain situations. The beauty of a team is that the more variety you have in the squad and on the field, the better. It’s an option that would also give more playing time to certain players. We have to adapt to the circumstances.”
