Up to Malagueño to turn the result around against CD Castellón (2-1)
The Malaguista reserve team loses out in Castalia by a short margin, leaving the tie taking place in Málaga wide open.
Manel Ruano’s boys come back from Castellón with a 2-1 defeat, meaning the tie will be decided in the return leg taking place in Málaga. CD Castellón and Atlético Malagueño played the first leg of the second round of Second Division B promotion play-offs at Nuevo Estadio de Castalia.
The match became difficult for Malagueño very early on. Castellón took the lead with a goal from Ebwelle in minute 5. The pacey player made the most of a rebound inside the area to overcome Aarón. Following the goal, the Malaguista side tried to take control of play, whilst the rival attempted to approach the Malaguista area with rapid movements. In minute 15, Calero had the equaliser at his feet, but the central defender missed an Ontiveros set piece from the left to the far post, by mere millimetres. Ten minutes later, in minute 25, Ebwelle scored again to give the home side a 2-0 lead, taking advantage of another rebound. The result remained the same at half-time.
In the second half, the Malaguistas took a step forward and were more insistent in front of goal. Mula, in minute 61, put the Blue and Whites on the scoreboard with a great goal. The number ‘7’ steered a shot from the base of the post into the net, having received a cross inside the area from Kuki on the left. The reserve team dominated the ball following the goal, arrived at the rival area and was able to contain the attacks and highs pressure from the home side. In the last stages of play, Pedro centered a ball following assistance from Nesyri with a tight header, but the referee disallowed the action as he understood the ball went offside the moment the winger served the pass to his teammate. The match ended 2-1, so the Blue and Whites have everything to play for next weekend in front of their fans.
