Ruano: “The goal keeps us alive”

The Malaguista reserve team coach analyses the defeat against CD Castellón in the first leg of the Second Division B promotion play-offs (2-1).

An away goal

“This goal keeps us alive, which was a little of what we were looking for.  When you have practically lost the tie and suddenly score a goal, the sensations are better than 45 minutes previously.”

Poor first half

“We have two very different styles, and each one works well.  In the first half, the rival imposed their style of play.  We made mistakes, which they also forced on us, but at the end of the day it’s a game, there’s give and take, and that’s what happens when we don’t compete.  We’re a reserve team, made up of young boys and this influences them.”

Kick-off time for the return leg

“We’re a reserve team, part of a First Division Club, we’re not going to try and set up Castellón in any way.  The kick-off time will be determined by what is convenient for the Club, it’s not my decision.  There are certain coaches who look for any advantages, but if we win, it’ll be by playing football.”
