Two goals from Pedro Mérida leads to victory against FC Uster (2-0)
Atlético Malagueño defeated Swiss side, FC Uster this morning by 2-0, in a friendly match held at Marbella Football Center, thanks to two goals from Pedro Mérida in the second half.
Ballesta used this match to give some of the other players an opportunity to shine, along with a number of the ‘Juvenil’ team members who are often in training with the second team. The starting-11 consisted of: Toni, Ismael, Calero, Cristian, Víctor Ruiz, Marrufo, Pablo, Ernesto, Vela, Samu Castillejo and Zalea.
The ‘Malaguistas’ dominated the match from kick-off, against a rival that barely created any goal chances, and only got close to Toni’s goal area following set pieces. Despite maintaining possession and generating a number of scoring opportunities, the Blue and Whites’ reserve team also failed to find the net, and the score board remained at 0-0 at half-time.
Pedro Mérida came on to the pitch in the second half, scoring both Málagueño goals. The first followed an impressive individual display by Joel Valencia, who defended well to assist his teammate in getting a goal. The second Blue and Whites’ goal was the result of a rival defence error.
This match proved to be great experience for the young players, with ‘Juvenil’ team member, Ismael Gallar, making his debut. Ernesto Cornejo was forced to abandon play after 10 minutes due to a muscular injury. However he’s got time to recover, as he’s suspended from Sunday’s match against Marbella FC.
