Totalán will accompany the team to Granada

Málaga CF once again shows its dedication to the municipalities of Málaga. José Luis Puche offers us a talented interpretation in homage to the protection of the chameleon in Totalán.

Málaga CF will face Granada CF this Friday 20th September on matchday 6 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION. The game will kick off at 20:30 at the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium. In this second Andalusian derby of the season, the picturesque municipality of Totalán will be featured in the match design and on the Blue and White captain’s armband.

Totalán stretches across the undulating landscape of Axarquía, with the stream of the same name running through its territory. In this scenery of ravines and hills, almond and olive trees paint the fields green, while the gardens along the stream add freshness. Surrounded by hills such as Salazar and las Herrerías, the village preserves the legacy of ancient vineyards and the agricultural character of its land.

The municipality, with megalithic remains dating back to the 4th millennium BC, has witnessed centuries of history. During the Reconquista in 1483, the Granada king El Zagal defeated Christian troops on its lands. The name of the village, which some interpret as ‘cake’ in Arabic, suggests a possible tradition of Andalusian pastry-making, although there is no concrete evidence to support this.

The phylloxera plague of the 19th century devastated its vineyards, leading to the exodus of much of its population in the 1940s. In 2019, the tragic accident of young Julen Roselló shocked Spain and brought the town into the national spotlight. Today, Totalán is progressing, supported by agriculture and tourism.

Totalán is adorned with architectural gems that capture the essence of the place, such as the Church of Santa Ana, built in the 16th century; the Salazar Watchtower; and the Dolmen of Cerro de la Corona, which provides a connection to the region's earliest inhabitants.

Totalán, nestled in a splendid natural setting, is the perfect place for those who enjoy hiking and mountain trails. Its paths weave through hills and mountains, offering spectacular views. A popular route leads to the Cave of Treasure, a sea cave that provides a truly unique experience.

Its cuisine is a journey of flavours. Chanfaina is the most iconic dish of the municipality. Accompanied by fresh fish and seafood, such as skewered sardines, and Andalusian delights like gazpacho, pescaíto frito, and salmorejo, the feast is completed with extra virgin olive oil and local wines.

The last Sunday of November is a magical day dedicated to the Chanfaina Festival. The village comes alive with tasting stalls, medieval markets, and folk music, creating a vibrant atmosphere that fills every corner with the essence of tradition and joy.

For the design of the captain’s armband, as well as for the match poster against Granada CF, José Luis Puche once again demonstrates his incredible skill in capturing the essence of the coastal municipalities.

In the artwork, the chameleon emerges as the protagonist, highlighting the municipality's uniqueness as the first in Spain to declare itself a protector of this species. In the background, the Fuente Vieja of Totalán unfolds in a subtle secondary layer, creating a composition that celebrates both ecological dedication and the rich heritage of the municipality.
