“This is a win for The Academy boys”

José Alberto highlights the hard work of his young players that led to victory in Alcorcón. “They made a tremendous effort to be able to compete,” he said in the post-match press conference.

“It wasn’t our best away match, but it was a very hard-fought victory. We kept a clean sheet, it’s our first away win of the season and a goal from a set piece gave us three points,” said the Blue and White coach. “The players made a tremendous effort to be able to compete today,” he continued.

The Asturian coach, happy, yet restrained, said “in the final stages we suffered a great deal. In terms of centimetres Alcorcón surpassed us, but the lads competed very well. However, our goalkeeper saved us two points, and I’m delighted for him too.”

The homegrown players have featured heavily in recent days. “Kevin hasn’t been in training all week. With the commitment they’ve shown, this victory is for them. The reserve team players have been helping us this week, they’ve been great in training, and we ended with a victory away from home. This is a win for The Academy boys.”

José Alberto gives great credit to the first win of the year: “Our job is to optimise everything, but we’ve had a very tough month and a half. When we have the entire squad, we’ll truly compete.”

Finally, he praised the fans who travelled to watch the game. “Despite it being Monday 3rd January, after Christmas, with the virus situation, there were lots of fans here. They enjoyed the match and they deserved it. They love their team more than anyone. They saw the lads win and knew how to suffer with the team. This victory is also for them,” he added.
