Alcorcón, kilometre 22

First match of 2022 and the first away win of the season for Málaga CF. We couldn’t have had a better start to the year.

In our usual kilometre, we take a look back at some of the highlights of last night’s #AlcorcónMálaga clash:

Paulino scores the winner

The 0-1 victory in Santo Domingo was sealed by the winger from Cantabria, scoring from a header to the far post from a Ramón corner. This is Paulino’s fourth goal of the season, going level with Brandon Thomas as the Blue and White ‘pichichi’. His effectiveness in terms of shots on goal, is an estimated 40% (four out of 10 shots).

‘Ter’ Martín

There was a lot of talk over the weekend about the monumental save by Ter Stegen in Mallorca. In true Malaguista style, Dani Martín put on his Superman cape to fly in the 90th minute, making an impossible stretch to hit the height of the German keeper’s iron fist. Dani’s save ensured we didn’t lose +2 points.

Win away from home

It was a long time coming, but at last Málaga have won away from home in LaLiga SmartBank 21/22. Although the lads won in the Cup debut in Tafalla, the victory in Alcorcón is emotionally significant, and consolidates our mid-table position. The next two games will be held at La Rosaleda, in front of our fans, against Sporting and Ibiza.

Amazing fans

Not even the cold, time or date could stop our first-class fans supporting us away from home, as they do game after game. Peña members, supporters’ groups, fans and Malagueños in Madrid cheered on the team, making themselves heard at the ‘Alfarero’ ground. The reward, +3 points.
