The ‘puppy’ that began to roar at Mohammed VI

Málaga CF striker, Youssef En-Nesyri took his first steps at the Mohammed VI Academy in Rabat. Homegrown players, Hicham and Abqar follow in his wake.

Youssef En-Nesyri is starting to show his potential. A talent who gave his first touches to the ball on the other side of the Mediterranean. At 20 years old, he has already won the hearts of many Malaguistas. A career path that began at Mohammed VI Football Academy located in Rabat (Morocco).

A non-profit football school promoted in 2008 by king Mohammed VI, which only caters for younger categories (up to 18 years old), and from where many players have left to move to different LaLiga youth ranks.

Juvenil and Atlético Malagueño

The ‘Lion of the Atlas’, a nickname for Moroccan football players in reference to a cat originating from North Africa, arrived at The MCF Academy in June 2015. Since then, following his pass through Juvenil División de Honor and Atlético Malagueño, he underwent the 2016-17 pre-season with the first team. That same summer he was the top scorer with the first team, scoring six goals in 12 games during the pre-season (four of which took place in 45-minute matches).

Debut in LaLiga

His LaLiga debut wearing the Málaga CF jersey took place on matchday 2 of the 2016-17 season, away to RCD Espanyol. Three games later, he scored his first LaLiga goal. A goal that led Málaga CF to victory against SD Eibar, bringing euphoria to the stands at La Rosaleda.

2017-18 season

This current season the striker has played 21 matches in LaLiga and one Copa del Rey clash, in which he’s scored three goals against SD Eibar, Athletic Club and Real Sociedad.

Morocco national team

En-Nesyri worked his way through the lower echelons of the Morocco national team until he made his first team debut, playing a total of 15 official games and scoring one goal, in the Africa Cup in Gabon.

Hicham and Abqar

Homegrown players, Hicham and Abqar follow in the footsteps of En-Nesyri. Both arrived at the Malaguista youth ranks from the Mohammed VI Football Academy, and have enjoyed a strong season with Atlético Malagueño. Two projects of the future, fine-tuning their football within the Blue and Whites’ youth ranks.
