The exquisite Dane who fell in love with La Rosaleda

The former Malaguista player for two seasons (1988/89 and 1989/90), returned to La Rosaleda stadium after nearly three decades since his last match as a Blue and White player.

A lot has changed at the house of the Malaguistas since John Lauridsen – 2nd April 1959, Ribe (Denmark) – delighted fans with his exquisite football. It was only two seasons, but his charisma, quality and delivery went deep into the hearts of all Malagueños. During his 68 matches wearing the Blue and White jersey, he scored seven goals.

This Tuesday afternoon, Lauridsen returned to the pitch at La Rosaleda, 28 years since his last game with CD Málaga. On his return, he was reunited with old friends from his time with Málaga. Antonio Benítez, who was his coach for a year and a half, and current Club adviser, greeted Lauridsen, along with the second coach of Atlético Malagueño, Juan Carlos Añón, teammate of the Danish former player at the end of the 80s.

Also accompanied by Club adviser, Abdullah Ben Barek and Málaga CF historian, Domingo Muñoz, they visited every corner of La Rosaleda. From the revamped press room to the MCF Museum & Tour, passing through the dressing room tunnel and the offices.

“It’s an honour for me to be able to return to this beautiful stadium. I had two great years here, particularly the first”, says Lauridsen to MCFTV during his visit to the Blue and White stadium.

The first Danish player in Malaguista history wanted to send a message of encouragement to the Malaguista fans: “Málaga CF has a more than sufficient team to be in the First Division. It’s very important that the fans continue to support the team”.
