Tarragona, kilometre 31

Back to winning ways against Nàstic de Tarragona for Málaga CF, with the Blue and Whites sitting in 4th place in LaLiga 1|2|3 with a 5-point lead over 7th place and 4 points from direct promotion positions.

Undefeated away from home… 4 months!

On 25th November 2018, Málaga lost their last match away from Martiricos in Extremadura. Since then there have been 4 victories (in Mallorca, Zaragoza, Majadahonda and Tarragona) and 4 draws (in Oviedo, Tenerife, Córdoba and Soria). MCF has won the third highest number of points away from home (24) in the competition, after Granada (26) and Albacete (25).

Kieszek, synonymous with victory

The Polish-born goalkeeper has been in the starting line-up in the league competition four times this season. He returned to the 11 in Tarragona and put on a brilliant performance and a secure defence, maintaining a clean sheet. With Kieszek in goal, Málaga have won all their games (against Tenerife, Albacete and Nàstic on two occasions) conceding just one goal… from a penalty. Better, almost impossible.

Pache, the smile of a goal-scorer

His goal led Málaga to victory at the Nou Estadi and was a personal dream come true. Dani Pacheco, who has recovered from injury and joined the game in 54’ in place of Ontiveros, scored his official goal with the Malaguista first team in the 72nd minute. Since his grassroots football days with the ‘Alevín’ team, he didn’t know how it felt to score a goal wearing the Blue and White jersey. You deserve it!

Eight changes to the line-up

The absences due to suspension, injury or the FIFA virus, led to a significant facelift to Muñiz’s starting-11, in all lines and with a change of system in regard to the last match in Soria. With the exception of Luis Hernández, Ricca and Adrián, the rest of the players (Kieszek, Cifuentes, Diego Glez., Erik Morán, Ontiveros, Iván Alejo, Harper and Blanco Leschuk) returned to the starting line-up and responded to expectations remarkably.

0-1 or 1-0, the registered trademark

At the start of the season, marked by tight victories, we talked about ‘the beauty of 1-0’. Indeed, such a result includes positive aspects such as minimising the attacking potential of the rival and maximising the use of own resources. Close to half of MCF’s league wins this season (7 out of 15) had the stamp of a narrow victory, but valid to achieve the desired objective in each game: the three points at stake.
