Successful debut for reserve team in Lev Yashin Cup
Atlético Malagueño defeated OFK Belgrade by 0-2 in their first match of the under-21’s tournament, which pays homage to Russian goalkeeper, Lev Yashin. Víctor Ruiz and Ernesto Gómez scored for the Blue and Whites.
Salva Ballesta’s boys kicked off their pre-season games with their usual level of intensity, controlling ball possession and dominating play. In minute 36, Víctor Ruiz took advantage of a foul on the edge of the area, to put the visitors 0-1 in the lead with a left-footer into goal.
The Serbian side made some changes in the second half to freshen up the team in the search for an equaliser. However it was an impressive display by Ernesto Gómez who put the Blue and Whites further in the lead, as he outwitted the rival defence to find the back of the net, giving Atlético Malagueño the first victory of the tournament.
The boys also had time to explore the city. Before the match, the ‘Malaguistas’ visited the Kremlin, Red Square and the centre of Moscow.
The reserve team isn’t competing tomorrow, but will continue with pre-season training with a session in the morning. The boys are up against Portuguese side, Benfica on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
