Atlético Malagueño
Atlético Malagueño defeated by CSKA Moscow in last match of Lev Yashin Cup (4-3)

The Blue and Whites’ second team lost to CSKA Moscow in the consolation match of the under-21’s Lev Yashin Cup (4-3). Salva Ballesta’s boys made a number of mistakes in this game.

It was an uphill struggle for the Blue and Whites from the second minute of play, as Diego lost possession inside the area, bringing down a Russian striker.  Martusevieh put the rival 1-0 in the lead with a penalty.

Mula scored a quick equaliser with a goal from outside the area.  However it was CSKA that continued to dominate the first half, maintaining control in midfield and putting pressure on Malagueño.

Despite a good effort from the home side, it was errors made by the ‘Malaguistas’ that led to the rival goals.  They appeared to have converted into a different team altogether at times, playing a somewhat immature match.  CSKA’s second and third goals soon followed, thanks to Georgievsky and Zhamaletdinov.

With a two-goal disadvantage. Atlético Malagueño stopped making mistakes and started to control the match.  Falu Aranda scored with an impressive header following a great pass from Ismael, just before half-time.

The Blue and Whites’ second team seemed much more in control in the second half, and generated chances to equalise and even take the lead, but it was another defensive error which led to a fourth goal for the Russian side, this time by Gondyvshenko.

Just before full-time, Ernesto Gómez scored a penalty to put the scoreboard at 4-3.

Despite this defeat, Atlético Malagueño had a positive experience in Russia.  The first two pre-season games were against high-level rivals, which helped to show the areas the team needs to work on during their development training at La Academia.
