Press conference

“There's always room for improvement; we want more”

Sergio Pellicer spoke at a press conference this afternoon at La Rosaleda. “I see the team ready to put together a good streak,” he said to the media.

Zaragoza, great rival
“It’s a team ready to fight for the top spots, because of the club, its history, and its fans; with a coach like Víctor, whose experience makes them a very well-regarded team. They won’t change their style of play, we don’t expect them to change because of the strong identity they have. As for us, with the excitement of the momentum we’re building, we want to keep adding points and aim for that third consecutive victory, which is very difficult to achieve in this league.”

Third consecutive win
“Just thinking about it is because we’ve achieved two victories. It’s very difficult to win three points at a time in this league, except for the current leader, who has astronomical numbers. We are humble, but we have the ambition to seek victory at a pivotal moment in the season. Each match presents us with a different scenario, but I see the players ready, and the best news is that we have the chance to put together the best streak of the season.”

Unusual week
“There has been a strong sense of social awareness. On Wednesday, the best decision was made for everyone. That experience was the most important thing, on Wednesday, the players worked from home, and we adjusted the workload. Today, we focused more on group work, rather than the individual approach we had been following. It’s about common sense, there’s no point in putting people at risk.”

Room for improvement
“That's the key. There's always room for improvement, and we want more. The other day, in the last play, we know we didn’t defend well. We need to improve to become a better team and have the humility to fine-tune those small details. Our job is to make the team better, line by line, with self-criticism and by reinforcing the positive things the team is already doing.”

Coach award
“It made me very happy, but the collective effort and the players are the most important thing. And the coaching staff too. This isn’t an award for Sergio Pellicer, it’s for everyone, players, staff, the sports management team... We achieved promotion, but football has no memory. I’m already focused on continuing to improve, learning every day, and that’s the key to our profession.”

Unity
“When we are united, we are stronger. Last year, we set a great example. I believe the award is a recognition of perseverance, to the coach who endured the most hardships. And we achieved something truly special. We must keep moving forward, and the Blue and White unity will make us even stronger.”

Growth
“You can’t start calculating outcomes. We’re coming off two 1-0 victories, and any small detail can make the difference. We need to understand that every play guides our path. The most important thing is staying true to ourselves, how we’ve entered the competition, how the players are growing, and how we’ve become a recognisable team. We have to stay on this path, our fans want more, and we want more too.”
