Sergio Sánchez: “An opportunity escaped us, but this is very long term”

The defender, Sergio Sánchez, was the player who spoke to the media this Monday morning in La Rosaleda’s press room.

Sergio Sánchez’s statements:

(Physical setback). “I’ve noticed the outcome of the inactivity a little, but it’s nothing serious and the day after tomorrow I think I’ll be back to being 100 per cent.  It’s a blip and I hope it doesn’t happen to me again.”

(Defeat in Anoeta). “Annoyed, and looking stupid, as it was a game that we had controlled.  In five minutes we went form three points to none.  Looking for the mistake is a bit hasty, they used their weapons and we didn’t go all out to ‘kill’ the whole game.  To analyse the game now would be a mistake, as I’ve still not seen it.  It was a good opportunity to get ahead there, the team came out full of intensity and we managed to get in front on the scoreboard, but then they started to bomb their way up and they got too many benefits for what they did.  No-one said this would be easy. It has escaped us but this is very long term and I’m sure that Málaga will end-up in the higher positions because we know the potential of this team.”

(Details of the match).  “The players played, but the referee had a lot of input.  They had clear faults, deserving a card, but they weren’t shown, and for us any little fault was given a card.  He blew the whistle many times when there weren’t faults, and I think that he stopped play on too many occasions, but sometimes referees give and sometimes they take away from you.  Now we’ve got to think about the forthcoming match, and we’re here strong and confident that we’ll get back to winning at home.  The third goal was amazing that the Chuilean put in, you applaud that. The team had control throughout almost the entire match, and the feeling was good up until the last five minutes.”

(Personal level). “It’s a question of getting minutes to get back to the physical tone I had before.  I’m getting closer to that all the time, I feel more settled and more at ease with the team, and feel more prominent, and that’s important for a player.  I hope it carries on like that.  Vela and Griezzman on my wing?  Any player in the First Division can make things complicated for you, I think that I covered it well and on my side they didn’t create too much danger, and with the help of everyone else it was a lot easier.”
