Sergio Sánchez, a former Espanyolista in Málaga

The Blue and Whites’ TV channel, that broadcasts on the Club’s official website, www.malagacf.com, recently spoke with Sergio Sánchez. The Málaga defender remembers fondly his time at Espanyol, the next league rival for Málaga CF.

Sergio’s statements to MCF-TV

(Espanyol) “I spent many years there, from the age of 10 to when I left at the age of 20 or 21, that’s a whole life at one club.  I’ve spent my sporting life there and there are many people there that I owe a lot to.  I’d always mention their humility as there’s always a lot of solidarity in every match.

(Pochettino) “My debut in the First was with him in the centre, he’s got a lot of confidence in the youth teams and he’s showing it each and every day, knowing that the young guys are responding well.”

(Ex teammates from that era) “There aren’t many players there now that I used to play with.  I was very close to Dani Jarque, may he rest in peace, and with Corominas, Luis García, Iván de la Peña, Tamudo… None of them are still there, but there are still those from the junior squads such as Javi Márquez, Raúl Baena and Javi López.  And they’re at a very high level.”

(Love for his ex team) “Sentimentally, I’ll always have half my heart at Espanyol; they were many years that I was there defending their colour and it gets under your skin.  But this Sunday, I will defend the colours of Málaga and I hope Málaga will win.”
