Sergio Pellicer: “We want the fans to go home happy”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference in the run-up to the match against CD Mirandés: “We’re facing this match with a clear idea of attacking as a fearless team, and defending with hunger”, he affirmed.

Mirandés

“We have to look at the present. We’re up against a rival that in their last two away games, Girona – one of the best teams in the division – and against leaders, Cádiz, they achieved a 0-3 win in Girona and 3-3 draw with Cádiz. Away from home they see the goal easily, they’re on good form, make very vertical transitions and are damaging on the attack. They are also coming from a Cup match, and the physical and emotional wear that entails, but this is much less following their victory. We’re facing this match with a clear idea, to show our fans we’re at home, pile the pressure on upfront, maintain a high intensity, attack as a fearless team, and defend with hunger. That’s what we’re going to do”.

Match preparation

“In the last 7-8 matches they’ve been amongst the top 3-4. We’re facing a totally different team to Ponferradina and Fuenlabrada, with other types of attacking and defending stats, particularly during critical moments. We’ve had a great week. With the predisposition of the players, we’ve tried to carry out certain aspects that we believe will help us to achieve victory tomorrow. It’s a fan-friendly kick-off time, we want the fans to go home happy, that’s what we’re hoping for”.

Team to concede the fewest goals

“These numbers mean something, they signify a collective commitment from the first defender, who is the attacker, the midfielders who do their job very well, and at the back we have good defenders. All of these individual aspects form a block. The key to this category is to maintain this block, stay strong at the back, which Málaga are doing. We’re working along that same line, as in this division the battle to survive is lengthy. It’s a marathon and we have to take each step at a time, which is what we’re focusing on”.
