Sergi Darder: “We did what we had to do in Pamplona – win”
Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Sergi Darder held a press conference after this morning’s training session, to analyse last night’s victory at El Sadar.
Firstly, Sergi Darder talks about the well-deserved win in Navarra last night: “It was crucial that we won this game, and we did what we had to do. We took Osasuna down at their home ground, and achieved an important win. Our strategy in the second half was the same as the first; to keep piling the pressure on them. I think we showed we’re a strong, united team with everyone working towards the same goal.”
The Mallorcan-born midfielder knows how tight the bottom of the table is: “Our objective is to push as many teams down as we can and get out of the danger zone. The pressure is on us every week to win matches, so we need to make sure we keep getting a positive result. We’re really pulling together now, and we corrected a lot of mistakes last Tuesday. We showed we’re more together than ever last night.”
Darder, who returned to the starting-11 yesterday, will miss out on the match against Real Madrid due to an accumulation of yellow cards: “I knew last night’s game would be a difficult one, and I’m grateful to the coach for selecting me for the line-up. I’m physically fit at the moment, and although I didn’t play my best match yesterday, I’m pleased with my performance and that of the team.”
The under-21’s international is aware that the team needs to keep on improving: “We did a lot of things right yesterday. In general, there are still some small details we need to fix, but if we’re really well prepared, then the mistakes will correct themselves. The team needs to improve in set pieces, but I’ve watched a lot of games and it’s often very difficult to defend well in these situations. Not just us, but every team finds it tough.”
Lastly, Darder is confident the Blue and Whites can throw a few surprises Real Madrid’s way on Saturday: “We’re hoping to play an excellent game against the BBVA League leaders and do our best to win.”
