Second place and into the playoffs! (0-3)

Málaga CFF won away from home this Sunday against Cacereño ‘B’. The Blue and Whites’ victory, combined with Sporting de Huelva’s defeat in Pozuelo de Alarcón, secures second place in the competition, and a chance to earn promotion via the playoffs, for the Malaguistas.

An exciting midday clash marked the 26th and final match of the regular season in Group 3 of the Segunda Federación de Fútbol Femenino. At the Manuel Sánchez Delgado ground, Cacereño Atlético Femenino faced Málaga CF Femenino.

Héctor Díaz’s starting-11 in Extremadura was made up of: María Arrabal; Lorena Herrera, Marina, Jeni, Farfán (c); Encarni, Andrea Ríos, Andrea Herrero, Alicia; Arantxa and Futu.

The first half was marked by tension and a very even contest between the two sides, until Encarni stepped up in the closing stages. Once again, she pushed forward and scored her third goal in recent weeks, putting her heart into it to give Málaga the lead (0-1, 40’).

After the break, Málaga sealed the match with two more goals. First, Arantxa caught the goalkeeper off guard with a trademark strike (0-2, 53’). Then Futu, as reliable as ever in front of goal, wrapped things up (0-3, 65’).

During the second half, Héctor made several substitutions to freshen up the team, bringing on Noemi, Yessenia, Belén, Carmen Aguilar, and Águeda, all of whom played their part in a clear and necessary victory to keep hopes of finishing second alive.

For that to happen, it was essential that their direct rival for second place, Sporting de Huelva, lost their match against Pozuelo de Alarcón. And, almost miraculously, it did happen, Sporting’s 2-1 defeat in Madrid allowed MCFF to finish the season in second place with 51 points, one more than the team from Huelva.

With this result, Málaga CF will compete for promotion to the Primera Federación in a playoff alongside three other teams: Real Sociedad ‘B’, runners-up in Group 1; FC Ona Sant Adrià, runners-up in Group 2; and, from the same group, the best third-placed team across the three groups in the competition, Zaragoza CFF.

Vamos, Málaga!
