Schuster: “We won’t have any advantage over Barcelona”

Málaga Club de Fútbol coach, Bernd Schuster, held a press conference following this evening’s training session, ahead of tomorrow’s match against Fútbol Club Barcelona.

Schuster firstly talks about the statements made by the Barcelona coach regarding the possible defensive system Málaga CF might adopt at the Nou Camp: “It’s not a bad thing, as that’s the style of play we’ll need to focus on at the Nou Camp.  We can’t play one-on-one with Barcelona.  We need to take precautions, as we did in the first leg, so that’s what we’ll be focusing on again tomorrow.”

With regards to the possible repercussions of the recent problems suffered by Barcelona, the ‘Malaguista’ coach doesn’t believe it will affect the players: “There’s no way the Barça players will let any problems within the club affect their performance on the pitch.  They know very well how to separate these issues.  What do I think?  Well, from our point of view it’s just another news story.  There’s never a good moment to play at the Nou Camp.  Even though we’ve been playing well in recent games, Barça always force their rivals to have less possession.  We won’t have any advantage over Barcelona.”

The German-born coach looks at the team line-up for Sunday’s match: “It’s been a bit tight.  I was even thinking of taking one of the injured players.  We don’t have any problem about leaving some players at home, but I hope this’ll be the last time.  Pawlowski won’t be in the starting-11; he’s an option for later on.  Marco Angeleri will take the place of Jesús, who played the last two games, albeit not for the 90 minutes, which will give him time to rest and recuperate for next week.  The rest of the defence will be made up of Sergio Sánchez, Flávio and Antunes.  Pablo Pérez will also be playing tomorrow, he’ll support us well in midfield.”

Finally, Schuster is looking forward to visiting a ground he knows well: “It’s not going to be a particularly special match.  It’s been many years since I played at the Nou Camp.  It’s a beautiful stadium and I have some wonderful memories.  It’s been ages since I played there and nearly four years since the last time I visited.”
