Schuster: “We want to perform at a high level against Almería”

Málaga Club de Fútbol coach, Bernd Schuster, held a press conference following this afternoon’s training session, to discuss tomorrow’s match at the Juegos del Mediterráneo stadium against Unión Deportiva Almería.

Firstly, Bernd Schuster talks about the team line-up: “Jesús has every intention of playing tomorrow, however at the last minute Weligton was not at 100 per cent, and tomorrow’s game is going to be tough so we’ll need to be on form.  I would have loved him to play tomorrow, but it’s not possible.  With regards to Roque, he re-joined group training the other day and is feeling really good at the moment.  Portillo is not suffering with any injury; we’ve got 21 players available, but had to make a decision who to include.”

Schuster is confident the Blue and Whites will come home with a positive result in Almería: “We’ll try and play the best game possible tomorrow, with a high level of intensity and performance level.  We’ve showed what we’re capable of in numerous games, however the results haven’t matched our game play.  It’s important that we believe in our ability and make full use of our new players.  The trouble lies when we start to depend on other teams, and not focus on ourselves.”

The German-born coach hopes the team will find a degree of stability: “The next two matches will decide the path we’ll follow.  We’ll know whereabouts we’ll finish as the season progresses.  However the team is full of surprises every week.  If we play well then I believe we can win, we’ll have to wait and see what happens and how the team reacts.  If other results help us out, then great.  There are other teams worse off than us in the League table.  It would have been impossible to predict at the beginning of the season where the team would be now.  Not taking into account the beginning of the first round, in which we had a winning streak, we’ve lacked continuity, and have taken one step forward and two steps back. This is why we’re in the situation we’re in now, which is a real shame.  We know where the problems are, but it’s difficult.”
