Sandro: “They treated me brilliantly in Las Palmas but I’m a ‘Malaguista’”

Carlos Alejandro Sierra Fumero, ‘Sandro’ speaks on the official ‘Malaguista’ website two days before the League clash between his two former teams, Las Palmas and Málaga: “I’ll be with Málaga till I die.”

One of the most charismatic footballers in Málaga’s history since the Club was re-founded in 1994, Sandro was also part of UD Las Palmas: “I’m really well, here in Tenerife working in the family business.  Of course I still watch football, I couldn’t live without it,” says Sandro.  ‘Sandrito’ is clear that Málaga “would always move up because of the hard work they’ve been doing,” and sees a parallel with the Blue and Whites’ rival on Sunday: “Las Palmas had the same turnaround as Málaga.”

The Las Galletas-born former player, a member of the Club’s sports management after he retired following MCF’s First Division promotion in 2007/08, considers “the most important and significant factor now is that we see the Málaga we’ve always seen, how they’re performing now.  We all need to stick together, knowing that staying in the top flight is paramount, and from there, the higher up we go the better.  I see a Málaga going back to its roots.”

In the run up to the Las Palmas-Málaga match on Sunday he says: “They treated me brilliantly in Las Palmas, and I only have words of thanks for them.  But I’ll be with Málaga till I die, and my Málaga is my Málaga.  I’m a ‘Malaguista’ and another ‘Malagueño’,” comments Sandro, an icon in the eyes of the Málaga fans for his football and his personality.
