Recio: “We have to continue with this mentality”

The Malaguista captain appeared in the mixed zone at La Rosaleda following the draw with Girona FC: “Both in Eibar and here we deserved more, but in the end, it wasn’t to be”.

Better sensations

“It doesn’t feel like much as our intention was to win, which I think the team showed and we went all out for the three points. Everything we’d worked on during the week went very well in the first half. We didn’t concede anything to Girona, who I don’t think had a shot at goal the entire match. We entered on the wings, we cut short counter-attacks, I think the team did well generally. In the second half, it went down because of the physical, whilst the rival corrected things and went for the ball more. It’s a shame we didn’t score all three points, but if we can’t win, then at least we didn’t lose. The pity is because we have a great deal of necessity in the second round, and everything we did in the first will weigh us down for the rest of the season”.

Clean sheet

“The games change when you get ahead, and we must make the most of those occasions, or those good moments we have in matches, to take the lead. However, it wasn’t to be. In the first round we only kept a clean sheet in one match, and today we did it again. Above all, the feeling is that the team, both in Eibar and here deserved more, but in the end, it wasn’t to be”.

Next rival, UD Las Palmas

“They are a direct rival, but for us every match is a final. Against Las Palmas, and all the remaining home and away fixtures will all be finals, so we must go with the same mentality with which I see the team. When the ball goes in we’ll achieve more victories”.

Samuel, back with Málaga

“Samu is a Málaga boy, he’s from here, which is always important. People of the house, people who have that feeling, is always appreciated. Hopefully, in this second round, he’ll show his best level, the level he showed when he was last here”.
