Recio: “It’s a shame there are only two games left”

The Malaguista midfielder analyses the great end to the season: “Ending with these good sensations, both individually and collectively, is something to be very happy about”.

Good end to the season

“The truth is I’m feeling pretty good, confident, which I think is mainly down to the coach. Not just with me, but for the majority of players, who during the season weren’t performing at the level they have been recently. I believe that I, individually, am doing well. I feel comfortable in a different position, with three in the middle, meaning Camacho can act as more of a pivot, and Fornals and I have much more freedom to approach upfront and reach the attacking half. I feel at ease and very happy. If you’d told me two months ago that we’d end the season like this, I could never have imagined it. I thought the season was almost over for me when I injured my arm, and it would be difficult to get back. Ending with these good sensations, both individually and collectively, is something to be very happy about”.

Difficult year for injuries

“It’s disappointing, as I’ve only been able to play very few matches this season, I was out through injury for a long time. I’m now enjoying the season, playing football which is what I wanted to do, and above all the team is in a superb dynamic. A good dynamic not just in regard to the results, but also gameplay. The team is very solid defensively, out of our last four home games, we kept a clean sheet in three of them. On the attack, we have some very strong mechanisms in which the team feels very comfortable. In the end, when everything works out and you win, things go great. It’s a shame both individually for me, and for the team, that there are only two games left”.

Goal-scorer

“I hadn’t scored for two years, and in less than three weeks I netted two goals. It stands out more when you score goals, as you can see all the hard work more prominently, which I’m happy about. I was able to dedicate one goal to my son, as I was unable to do so for two years, so I’m delighted about that. Following a tough year in regard to injuries and suffering, ending the season in such a sweet way leaves us very happy ahead of the holidays”.
