Rayo Majadahonda, second round Cup rival

Málaga CF will play CF Rayo Majadahonda in the second round of the Copa del Rey. The single match tie will take place between 14th and 16th December at Cerro del Espino.

The draw was held this Friday for the second round of the Copa del Rey at the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s headquarters.

After defeating Peña Sport FC in Tafalla (0-3) last night, Málaga CF will now be up against Rayo Majadahonda of Primera RFEF, who beat CD Eldense (0-1).

The single match decider will take place between Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th December, yet to be decided, in Madrid at the Cerro del Espino.

Following the draw, Malaguista player Jairo talked about the upcoming match against Rayo Majadahonda for MCFTV: “It’s going to be a very tough game and they’re going to play it with great enthusiasm. We’re also excited to compete, we always want to win. We are looking forward to the game, but first we have an important one on Sunday.”

The player also spoke about yesterday’s Cup clash against Peña Sport: “We’re happy because the team competed. We know that these games are always difficult due to the rival’s motivation. Players who have fewer minutes than usual tend to get a chance, which can get tricky if you’re not 100 per cent focused. We played a direct game at times, and we knew how to read the match well. We attacked well on the wings, we generated several chances, and it was a very complete game in terms of a confidence boost for many players.”

Lastly, Jairo talked about the upcoming league match at home on Sunday against SD Amorebieta: “With the fans’ help we’re very strong at home, which is super important. I’m sure we’ll keep the three points at home to continue in a good position in the standings, with confidence and by winning games at La Rosaleda.”
