“We want to end the year with a win”

Sergio Pellicer held a press conference on the eve of #RealSportingMálaga. “If we are at one hundred percent, we can compete against anyone,” stated the coach.

Real Sporting
“What happened the other day is forgotten. It’s another challenge we have ahead. We’ve had a lot of draws and two defeats away from our stadium. A great match against a great rival, also historic, built to fight for promotion spots. We’re going to aim for victory, to be ourselves with the identity we’ve been showing, and to stay focused on the goal of finishing the first half of the season as we are, competing.
And to end the year by securing a win.”

Last match
“When you create precision, almost with the first shot on target, and score from set pieces, everything becomes easier. It’s a good example for us to reflect on, reviewing the positives and the areas we need to improve. Always striving for improvement, staying alert, and knowing that if we are at one hundred percent, we can compete against anyone. Effort is non-negotiable, and that was proven the other day.”

Sporting
“In the Cartagena match, there was an action that penalised them; in Ferrol, the first two actions involved two individual mistakes; and against Mirandés, they performed much better against the breakout team of the season. It’s a project aimed at seeking promotion. They use different formations, with very dynamic players, full-backs who push forward, wingers cutting inside, and players of exceptional quality… But we have to focus on being ourselves, making small adjustments that help us win more than we have so far.”

Full-backs
“Carlos, Jokin, Dani, and Víctor all have different profiles. The one who best understands the context of each match will compete. Competition is uncomfortable, but it’s necessary. Everyone wants to play, and that’s the beauty of it. They are players who put in high-intensity efforts, the season is very long, and they are performing at a very good level.
For me, they are all starters.”

Christmas break
“I have a bet with them, they know that if we win, they’ll get an extra day (of rest). Rest is good too, but we’ll likely play a match before 11th January. Nowadays, players understand they have to invest in their physical condition, and after Christmas, they know the invisible work begins.
But they’re in good shape.”

First round review
“One game remains, but if you’d told me before the season started that we’d have 27 points… What matters is how we’ve earned them. And now, to reach 30. The way we’ve competed, despite our challenges, has been key. I believe we’ve been one of the most consistent teams when it comes to competing in matches. In moments of weakness, the team has always held firm. It’s true we’ve had many draws, and we need to turn those into wins in the second half of the season.
We want more.”
