Pellicer: “We’ve closed this half of the season in the best possible way”

Málaga CF's coach addressed the media following the victory against Real Sporting at El Molinón-Enrique Castro ‘Quini’. “We’ve reached 30 points, showing that we’re a team that competes in every match,” he said.

Match analysis

“I think it was a very difficult match from the start. It's true that in the first half, we had control or possession of the ball, but their dangerous chances were greater than ours.

“In the second half, our first action led to Roko's play. Then, there was a moment before the equaliser when they managed to unbalance us a bit. But the team never stopped fighting.

“With the substitutions and after the penalty incident, the anxiety of the opponent also played a role, which is normal in those situations. That's when we were able to take advantage of the spaces, especially with the actions of Dioni.”

First round review

“We’ve reached 30 points, but what’s most important is the identity of the team. With only three losses, for a newly promoted side with a young and revamped squad, we are proving that we compete in every match. After 20 matchdays, I am very happy with the players and the fans.

“It’s true that we need to keep our feet on the ground, but we are much closer to our goal. From there, we can start thinking about being ambitious, because the team deserves it. Now it’s time to rest and enjoy, closing this chapter in the best possible way.”

Key to victory

“Alfonso was key in two crucial moments of the first half, keeping us in the game with important saves. Although we had more possession, we didn’t manage to be dangerous, while Sporting, with their resources, created danger on several occasions, although they lacked precision.

“In the second half, we controlled the game better, but they had some key moments, such as shots hitting the crossbar and the post. The difference was in our accuracy, something we had lacked in previous matches.

“I also want to highlight the team's commitment, defending with heart, and the importance of this victory for our fans and our forwards. Sporting is a great team that will be fighting at the top.”

Second round objective

“What’s important is to maintain the enthusiasm without losing sight of our goal. This division is tough, and we know how difficult it is to stay consistent. The 30 points are a great achievement, we’ve created distance from the relegation zone and are close to the playoffs, but we must take it one game at a time with patience and clarity.

“The key has been working from humility, which doesn't mean a lack of ambition. We deserve to aim for the highest, but always with calm. Last year, in Primera RFEF, we overcame many doubts with patience, hard work, and unity between the fans, the team, and the coaching staff. That continues to be the foundation for growth."
