Peybernes: “We have to continue along the same line”

The Malaguista defender held a press conference following the draw with Real Valladolid CF: “It’s a tough time, so we want to thank the fans for coming to cheer us on. This will make us improve between now and the end of the season,” he said.

The French central defender analysed the draw from Real Valladolid CF's visit to La Rosaleda to the media. “We didn’t reap the reward. We played a good game against a team in a very good dynamic. In terms of intensity, the team played very well, which is what we have to do from here until the end of the season,” said the number ‘17’. In addition, highlighting the result against such an effective rival, he added that “they have scored nearly four goals per match” and that “we must focus on the team’s attitude and effort.”

Regarding the debut of Pablo Guede and his message in the dressing room, Peybernes commented that “the team has gone through numerous changes during the season, with many coach changes and the need to adapt. With the change we see more intensity, he asks us to pile the pressure on upfront. We’re able to do that, on a physical level we’re raring to go. We have to continue along the same line, not lower this pace or intensity, in order to obtain good results,” affirmed the defender.

Real Valladolid scored the 2-1 from a corner. “It was our fault,” said Peybernes. “We were positioned with people in the area and with marks on set pieces. Yet in a dispute, one against one, they scored a goal. The 2-1, in our dynamic, makes them go up and us down,” he stated about the team’s defensive display.

Peybernes wants the change in dynamics to last. “We have to improve with the new coach and the new concepts. We need to adapt quickly. We have improved, but we have to improve in the small details, which are what the big teams handle well. We can’t go down from this level. We played well against a very good rival, a great team. We can't go down. We have very tough matches coming up, we know that. But if we continue to play at this level and with this mentality, we’ll get results,” he said.

Finally, he was self-critical in regard to the negative dynamic that has taken over the team recently. “We are the first ones responsible for the situation. At the end of the season, we can draw conclusions. The good thing that we have achieved today is that people came to support us. It’s a tough time, so we want to thank the fans for coming to cheer us on. This will make us improve between now and the end of the season,” he concluded.
