Peña Deportiva named as first Cup rival

Málaga CF will face SCR Peña Deportiva in the first round of the Copa del Rey, in a single match round that will be held in Ibiza the weekend of 12/13 November.

The draw for the first round of the Copa de Su Majestad El Rey was held in the Luis Aragonés Hall of the RFEF Football City earlier today.

Málaga CF will debut in the knockout competition against SCR Peña Deportiva. The rival from Ibiza competes in Segunda Federación Group 3 and yesterday suffered their first defeat of the 22/23 league season, away from home to Hércules CF (2-1). After eight matches, they’ve scored 15 points (four wins and three draws) and are sitting in the top part of the table.

The unprecedented duel between the outfit from Ibiza and the Blue and Whites will take place in Santa Eulalia on Saturday 12th or Sunday 13th November, the time has not yet been announced. This knockout tie will be a single match round.

However, there is a historical precedent between Peña Deportiva and Atlético Malagueño, Málaga CF’s reserve team, from the 2016/17 season. The team then coached by Manel Ruano, in the first leg of the second round of the promotion phase to Segunda División B, drew (0-0) in Ibiza. In the return leg, at the Federación Malagueña ground, the Blue and Whites won 3-0 (Maty and Harper -2-) and got through to the next round.
