The Malaguista coach analyses the upcoming LaLiga SmartBank calendar: “We need to face it as we did the final stretch of last season”, he affirmed.
Evaluation of the start of the league competition
“The most important thing is that the competition is just around the corner and we have only just finished competing from last season. We’ll face these matches with as much integrity as possible and the competitiveness we’ve been showing. Beyond the rivals, we need to focus on ourselves. We always tend to watch the first few games on the calendar, we’ll evaluate and analyse the upcoming rivals. We have two weeks remaining of this preseason to assimilate concepts and make adjustments. As from next week, the last of the pre-competition, we’ll be ready to play Tenerife with the idea of competing and winning the three points”.
First two games away from home
“We always like to kick off the competition playing at home, but the circumstances are what they are, and it looks as though they will continue to be behind closed doors unfortunately. We can’t wait for this nightmare to be over as soon as possible so we can enjoy our fans supporting us and cheering us on at La Rosaleda, where we win points. We need to face it as we did the final stretch of last season, and remember that the pitch factor isn’t a bonus for the home side. We’ll continue with the same intention, the same idea, the same commitment, the same passion and, above all, the same enthusiasm, and hope to compete under the best possible conditions”.
Good level in preseason games
“This is the way forward and the DNA of this Málaga. It’s important that we stay a very humble team, but very solid in defence. In the situation we find ourselves in, each player must be given a 10 out of 10, whether they’re homegrown players, veterans or new faces such as Orlando, Iván Calero, Dani Barrio and Escassi. We’re forming a group and attempting to resolve all situations to enable us to have more peace of mind, little by little. We’ve shown the professionalism of this team, the entire coaching team, the camaraderie within the group and the level of training which is key to being able to compete in these matches. This is a true reflection of what is conveyed in games. Our eyes light up when we watch the team in training, the sessions are very demanding, and the players are really giving their all. We need to follow this path, we know the idea we have, we must try and resolve all the players’ personal situations and remember that the new additions are here to help us. From there, it’s about focusing on competing as we’ve been doing throughout the preseason, against rivals of a superior category, who are fast with the ball and who have great physical ability. We’ve shown our competitiveness and need to continue along this line”.
