Press conference
Pellicer: “The rival surpassed us today”

The Malaguista coach held a press conference after the team's defeat against AD Ceuta at the Alfonso Murube. “We’ll reorganise and restructure ourselves, there’s work to be done but the attitude is there. We all have to take a step forward,” he stated.

Match analysis

“I congratulate Ceuta for how they played in the first half. It was a great match for the spectator, not so much for us. In the first half we weren’t well positioned, especially in terms of pressure. We weren’t patient with the ball and we had actions in our own half that we should avoid. It’s down to bad decision making. The rival was superior to us. We tried to adjust in the second half, and I think we did the hardest thing. We found a good structure with the changes, with Manu and Juanpe and Víctor and Jokin. This can’t happen to us when we managed to do the most difficult thing. I am left with the fact that the team stood up to the rival throughout and showed soul and attitude. There are things we do well, but there are others we have to improve.”

Fix mistakes for the future

“It is our job, especially in defence. In case of loss we always have several guidelines. We were a strong team today, and in these last few games we’ve been losing. We’ll reorganise and restructure ourselves, there’s work to be done but the attitude is there. We all have to take a step forward.”

End of the first round

“It’s not the best way to end because I think that the team had, except for a few games, an immaculate first round in terms of attitude, work and performance. Today we faced a very hard-working opponent. We have to know that we have many people behind us. We have to work hard and take a step forward. Thanks to all the people who came from Málaga. They make us feel things that we are not. It’s a shame for them.”

Starting line-up for Antoñito and Izan

“When there is a mistake, and it’s a new mistake, it is a learning experience. It is true that we need immediate performance, but we know that it is a process. They will take the experience for themselves. Today was a good test. I watch them train and they convey that energy and positivity to me.”

Only way forward is to keep working

“We have to analyse. Travel back home and return to training tomorrow. Now it’s time to prepare for the Castellón game, which is now the most important game of the season. We have to be ambitious. We know that this is a team that is doing very well, and that we are on another level. Due to the demands and history we have, we know that we have to continue. It’s an important match and will be high energy. It will be a good test against the favourite.”
